Today Koala Retreat had the privilege of hosting Dexus Property Group to plant trees to help offset their carbon emissions By participating in the tree planting program the staff of Dexus Property Group helped our environmental and conservation issues as well as our wildlife both in captivity and in the wild.
Today Friday the 31st of July 2009 was a warm to hot day and the ground surface was hard for planting trees. Not to be deterred the DEXUS group worked well and were attentive to the task. These trees will grow and change the local environment and provide additional options for Koala Retreat to source koala food.
The first part of the day was dedicated to adding native soil mix and aerating the compacted soil of at least 1 metre around the tube stock trees, which in practice isn’t easy! A lot of hard ‘yacka’ is involved and personal fitness is an advantage. Finally a thick layer of mulch was applied with a good drink for the trees.
Dexus property group planted 141 trees today which was an excellent achievement working on a hard surface with not much top soil, WELL DONE DEXUS!!
The trees planted on this day are now doing well.
